The Washington Nationals acquire Jimmy Cordero from the Phillies

The Washington Nationals have acquired 25-year old righty reliever Jimmy Cordero from the Philadelphia Phillies for either a player to be named later or cash.  Cordero pitched in 22 games (0 starts) in Rookie+A+AA+AAA-ball for the Phillies last year and he was 2-3 with 2 saves, a 5.00 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP.  He gave up 27 hits and 10 walks while whiffing 10 batters in his 27 innings in the minors last year.  Cordero has pitched in 115 games (5 starts) in his first five years in the minors and he is 10-12 with 4 saves, a 3.80 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP.  This is just a case of the Nationals taking a flier on a young reliever with a good arm.
